Hurray for weekends! It's movie-watching time! Today, I watched Secretly, Greatly starring Kim Soo Hyun, Park Ki Woong and Lee Hyun Woo. I knew this film long ago because of Park Ki Woong but didn't really bother watching. I am not a certified PKW fan but I like him since I saw him as Kimura Shunji in Gaksital (my favorite drama ever!) Then, just recently, a friend of mine recommended this movie. She's not an action movie watcher so I wondered why.
The story is about three North Korean men who are sent out for a mission in their rival nation, South Korea. These three men have to disguise themselves: Dong Gu (Kim Soo Hyun) as an unemployed idiot, Min Su (Park Ki Woong) as a rocker wannabe and Hae Jin (Lee Hyun Woo) as a high school stud. They have to pretend and live in a South Korea town until they get an order from the authority.
Soooooo, I thought it was boring. It's like for the first hour of the movie, nothing much happened. But kudos to Kim Soo Hyun for willingly doing embarrassing acts of an idiot. I had fun watching him. As for Park Ki Woong, he did okay. Though I felt bitter with how his character ended but since the other two characters ended the same way, I guess it was fair enough, ha. And for Lee Hyun Woo, he's such a baby! I wonder how old he is. His voice seems like he hasn't get passed through the puberty stage yet, LOL. I first thought his character was gay and in love with Dong Gu. I blame the director for emphasizing his dilated eyes and flattered emotion every time Dong Gu touches him or praises him.
Probably the reason why I thought it was boring because it was too long, more than two hours. Good thing, they had subplots and side characters in the movie. It must be the best part, I cried more with the side characters than the ending/resolution part of the movie. The action scenes were well-executed, it kept me at the edge of my seat. I hated the politics though because I could hardly understand it. Of course I know it's essential since that's what the movie is all about but it added up to the boring stuff, you know.
I'm not a Korean so maybe that explains why I don't get the rivalry between the two nations and why North Korea is so heartless and stubborn. It makes me want to kidnap all their people and save them.
