Book Review: Every Day by David Levithan

A classmate told me about this book and what's the story is all about. I got really interested because of the unique premise that I downloaded it right after we had the conversation, special thanks to the school wifi. I started reading on a Monday night, just to know if I would like it. And I did. So I continued, and I slept late. But, I put the book on hold because I got really busy this week and besides, I like reading a novel the most when I can read it whole in a day, without distractions. I decided to continue reading on weekends.

The novel is so touching with a very likeable protagonist, A, who's body-less and gender-less. The main thing I like in this book is that in every body A borrows, we get to see a glimpse of their lives, their memories and their thoughts. It makes me think that this would be a nice procedural kind of series. Even though A doesn't want to mingle with the life he's in as much as possible, he still can't ignore that sometimes, he has to step in and help the person in any way possible, especially if he's the only one who has the access of what the person's real thoughts and feelings deep inside. The book actually proves that even in just a day, one's life can turn upside down.

As for the romance part, it's realistic that Rhiannon didn't believe A right away. She asked for proofs and I love how A was determined to prove that he's just there, though without his own and permanent body. I wondered together with Rhiannon how their relationship will work because just like what Rhiannon said, he would always leave, every day. Nathan and Reverend Poole, on the other hand, add up to the tension to the story and it's a good thing that there's the mystery side of the story that tells that A could possibly be a demon.

Though we never really got to know why this has happened to A. Why he's like this? Or who did this to him? Well, the book never gave answers to that. It's okay, since the story is more into explaining that real love is looking beyond what the eyes can see.

The ending is a bit expected for me. But that doesn't mean I didn't cry. I am glad I read the book.
