So much excitement for this show for so many reasons.
First, it starred Lee Seon Kyun a.k.a Mr. Voice, ha. He's one of the best actors in my opinion. I watched him first in Coffee Prince but wasn't that impressed because his character was boring. I watched him for the second time in Pasta and totally love him there! Then watched my first medical drama, Golden Time which he also starred in. I liked the first half of Golden Time but didn't get to finish watching the second half. Not too long ago, I also found out that Lee Seon Kyun was a musical actor, just like my favorite Joo Won. It's funny because I always think Lee Seon Kyun and Joo Won are alike though I'm not sure in what way. It's like when I watch Lee Seon Kyun, I can see Joo Won in him.
Second, the PD is the same PD from Pasta. I love Pasta so much. It's my second top favorite drama of all time. It began my love for Lee Seon Kyun and my admiration for Gong Hyo Jin. It's a light drama, could fall to rom-com genres but it wasn't cheesy, not at all. The characters have other lives other than romancing their partners. And what made me love this drama so much? Foods. Lots of foods.
Third, the writer is also the same writer of Pasta. I like this writer. The way he connects the characters' trials to life lessons will get you hooked to the story. His strongest point must be how he makes sense out of simple conflicts. This writer also doesn't center solely on romance alone. And from what I observed from his other two dramas (Pasta, Golden Time) that I've watched, he doesn't make use of typical/perfect characters. He explores each character and develops them well throughout the story. He likes to make use of man vs. man kind of conflict. Battling with inner self. Making bad decisions, but not totally bad villains. I like his writing for being this realistic.
Fourth, a small reunion of Pasta cast. I've watched the two teasers and I can see familiar faces. This director is something, casting the actors from his previous dramas. I don't want to think he owe them something, lol. I'd like to think that he must have liked these actors' work ethics, especially Lee Seon Kyun. It's his third drama with the same main lead actor, ha. That's worth noting, I guess. I mean, that rarely happens in kdramaland!
Fifth, the drama is set on 1997. Whut! I found out about this just now, like 5 seconds ago. Initially, I was only excited for the actors, PD and writer because they've worked really well and produced a very good drama, Pasta, in the past. But now, after knowing that it's set during the 90's, I can't wait any longer!! I feel like they're somewhat adopting the Reply's concept. Not that it's bad, I think that's kind of a big challenge for the production. Both Reply 1997 and 1994 hit big and ratings are all high, despite being a cable drama. With the same era and somewhat the same concept, I can already sense that this drama will be compared to Reply a lot. And it will be a hard challenge to live up to Reply's success.
Side note, the female lead character will be played by Lee Yeon Hee. Uhh, she's not that likable in South Korea. There are bad rumors about her and her acting is known to be mediocre. But still she managed to stay in show business for 10 years now. Even though knetizens bash her for no other reasons other than her rumored bad attitude and acting, she is still considered a beauty, and a natural at that. Her labelmate, Go Ara, who is currently starring in Reply 1994, had the same image as hers before, known for her face but not for her acting skills. However, thanks to the Reply's magic, Go Ara is now slowly getting recognition of being a good actress. Hopefully, same thing will happen to Lee Yeon Hee for this drama.
I would love this poster more if Lee Mi Sook was included. She looks like she's gonna be chic and the fun of the drama!
