KBS Drama Awards 2013 | Joo Won (Good Doctor) Owns The Night

My New Year's Eve was crazeh, in a good way.

Thanks to this man who won four awards (PDs Choice/Actor of the Year Award, Best Couple Award w/ Moon Chae Won, Netizen Award, Top Excellence Award) in the KBS Drama Awards 2013. I actually wanted him to win the daesang this year because if he did win, he could have been the youngest recepient of KBS Daesang and of course because he deserved it. Everyone was anticipating a tough battle between KBS Filial Son, Joo Won and veteran actress, Kim Hye Soo for daesang.

Joo Won debuted in Baker King Kim Tak Gu (KBS) on 2010 and he was nominated for the Best New Actor award at that time. However, he lost to Yoon Shi Yoon. In 2011, he's been in Ojakgyo Brothers (KBS) and won recognition as the Best New Actor. In 2012, he showed his diversity as an actor and surprised everyone with his performance in Bridal Mask (KBS). He won Excellence Award, but many believed that he deserved more than that. This year, he was highly praised for acting as an autistic savant doctor, Park Shi On.

Joo Won has been with KBS since he debuted and every single drama he's been in was a huge success, earning him to be called the KBS Filial Son. Yes, I wouldn't even be surprised if he takes over KBS in the future, LOL. That's why he's always asked during interviews if he's a son of an executive of KBS or if someone is backing him up. Joo Won just laughed at it, saying the success of his dramas is because of the team's hardwork. He said he feels at home in KBS and he knows almost all the staffs so he feels comfortable. The same goes with co-star, Moon Chae Won who mostly have hit KBS dramas. So when KBS got a brilliant idea and partnered up these two in a medical drama... bang!

Good Doctor won the awards night, with 7 awards overall. The three leads all won something: Joo Sang Wook for Excellence Award (Male), Moon Chae Won won Popularity Award, Best Couple with Joo Won and Excellence Award (Female) and Joo Won, who got the most number of awards (Actor of the Year Award, Best Couple Award w/ Moon Chae Won, Netizen Award, Top Excellence Award) tonight.

Everyone was expecting him to win daesang though. I've seen articles about him competing against Kim Hye Soo and even Korean netizens think Joo Won deserved it too. Joo Won is still young though with only three years of experience in show business. Plus, we all know how SK is obsessed with seniority. Kim Hye Soo, on the other hand, is a veteran actress whose acting skills are widely recognized in the industry and by the public. So I think, Joo Won was more than happy for his name to be up against a much experienced senior actress.

Of course, Joo Won could not get even more grateful for his awards. He's such a simple man. In all his speeches, he thanked God (he's a Christian), his family, co-actors, sunbaes, staff and crew, his agency, the people working for him, fans and viewers and even hoped that more pediatric hospitals would be made and more awareness for the disabled. He expressed his gratefulness even on his twitter account. He never fails to add that he hopes to be an actor who smells human, meaning, an actor who stays grounded. And this is exactly why I love him.

Red Carpet Walk

Best Couple Award with Moon Chae Won (Cha Yeon Soo-Park Shi On). It is Joo Won's first couple award, ever. Moon Chae Won, 3rd time in a row.
Damn, they both looked beautiful. I thought I was watching a wedding ceremony. Even the hosts were awed when they walked through that runway.

Joo Won and the back of his manager. He thanked him too during his speech, "...and Jae Cheon, whom I love so much[...] Thank you."

Joo Won singing "If I Were". Awww, even Little Park Shi On was there to sing with him. When he was performing, his hyung/senior actor Shin Hyun Joong who was also one of the MC of the night, was cheering and shouting for him, "You're so handsooooome!". Just for the record, this is Joo Won's 3rd time performing in KBS Awards Night.

Joo Won in his winning speech for PDs' Choice/Actor of the Year Award:
Good Doctor has warmed my heart, and I saw the viewers' hearts warm up as well. It made me think of how dramas can leave strong impressions. I'm so happy these days... I'll do my best to work hard with a humble heart, so I give even more love in the next 60 years.
